Product Code: PE01A
Robert Sorby ProEdge Sharpening System
The ProEdge System (code PE01A) is the basic machine supplied with a 120 grit Aluminium Oxide belt and a 60 grit Zirconium belt.
We had a little play with this machine prior to offering it in our catalogue and found it really does do what it says on the box, and believe it competes with the most expensive wet grinders but works faster, does not heat the tools and has a range of easy change belts at very reasonable prices.
A new short tool platform for micro tools and those worn out tools with short shanks has just been introduced.
More than a sharpening aid, this system really does take the guesswork out of sharpening turning, carving and carpentry tools and is the first complete sharpening system we have ever used.
Sharpening on a flat surface - like a stone or belt - can be problematical unless you work at keeping a flat bevel (rather than rounding it over), but the jigs and guides on this machine present and hold the tool perfectly. We believe this machine takes the hassle and guess work out of sharpening and gives a better than factory finish every time. with no special skills.
But don’t take our word for it - come and see it demonstrated in the shop.
The machine can be angled at any position to suit the operator and is fitted with a guide table that can be set at a range of angles to suit just about any tool - 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, 35°, 45°, 60°, 80° and 90°.
This table has a machined slot to accept the Skew Jig, Standard Gouge Jig and Woodworking Chisel Guide. Below the table is a chromed rod to accept the barrel of the established Fingernail Profiler.
Why different belts?
A 60 grit belt is used for heavy steel removal (i.e. re-shaping or restoring), 120 and 240 grits are used for finer sharpening.
Aluminium oxide belts are used for woodworking chisels, carving tools and plane irons.
Zirconium belts are used for HSS tools, drill and router bits.
Ceramic belts are very hard wearing and can be used for all tools.
We tried them all on all the different steels and found they worked fine but the various types are specialised and will obviously last accordingly.
If you already have the Fingernail Profiler on a 446 or 447, you don’t need to buy another, as it fits directly to the ProEdge.
