Robert Sorby now manufactures this long established drive centre and have increased the size range even further since it’s introduction last year.
The Stebcentre, our best drive centre by far, is a unique drive with spring loaded centre-point and razor sharp teeth to grip the work without the need to pre-mark the wood or even making the ends dead square.
The Steb is also unique in allowing spindles to be remounted a number of times or even reversed, and still they will spin up spot on.
These features, and the tremendous grip given by the teeth - far exceeding a conventional drives yet with little indentation - has made the Steb a favourite of professionals for many years.
Those who saw the bird box demo at our 2005 Spring Show were amazed that the Yew log with chainsawn ends was only driven by a 1 1/4in. Steb under tailstock pressure alone.
