Traditionally a carvers’ timber and not everyone’s idea of a turning wood but with more people embellishing work with carving, coating and colours, it was surprisingly popular when we last had some. We bought a few logs three year ago and milled them to 3” and 4” and will be cutting turning and carving blanks. The timber is cream to light honey brown with an indistinct grain. Cuts soft but will take fine detail. As with most timber, finishing oils will darken it, hard wax oils less so and cellulose sanding sealer will keep the colour much as it come off the lathe
