ROBERT SORBY STEWART ARMBRACE SYSTEM

From small to large hollow forms, vases and large bowls, the Stewart Armbrace, fitted with the Reversible Hooker or Articulated probe is a very versatile tool and one of the first combinations that turners add to their kit when moving to deep work.

The cold steel armbrace might look intimidating, but once cradled in the arm and with a solid stance, this tool gives amazing control, whether it be for aggressive wood removal or stroking a fine finish straight from the cutter.
As a for instance, the large bowls and hollow forms on show in our shop were all done with this system. Each tool is available separately or as kits.
The RS210 Hooker can be used inboard or outboard and is supplied with cutter No 3 (also in Replaceable Sorby Cutting Tips) but we recommend cutter No 8 as a useful cutting bit for good wood removal and control.
Likewise, Swivel tip complete No 12 is probably the most efficient tool for aggressive yet controllable hollowing. This optional attachment comprises cutter No 6 (round end swivel tip) with a cutter holder that fixes to the head of the hooker with a hex screw.
The RS213 Articulated Probe is supplied with Cutters No 1, 6 and 7 as shown.
