Wild Mango Rustic Log Slices
We are often asked to cut a disc from the end of a tree for a table or suchlike and always decline because with hardwoods especially, they almost always crack, sometimes asunder. So when Dalmanns brought us a slice from the end of a long-dead Wild Mango all sanded and smooth with a promise that it would be stable, we did what any kind taskmaster would do and put it next to the shop wood stove. . . One year later is it still there and just the same with only the tiniest pith crack that all logs have from day one and small cracks from the bark edge running in a little way. Quite amazing. These slices are about 1” thick. Cut from trees that blew down over forty years ago, the sapwood has long rotted away so the outer edges have been wire brushed and both faces sanded to a shine. Just as they are, they will make nice cutting boards or wall hangings but we see possibilities for clocks, small tables and the like so have bought a batch of them. They are odd shaped and sized by Dalmann as follows:
Small - most of the slice fits within an 8” circle.
Medium - most fits within a 12” circle.
Large - most is outside of a 12” circle.
