ROBERT SORBY ROUND NOSE SCRAPERS
A basic tool for many woodturners.
Round nose scrapers, ground to around 10° will cut sweetly and are part of most turners’ armoury.
A scraper is a type of wood turner who uses blunt tools to gnaw and brutalise wood.
A scraper tool is generally a flat cutting tool that will leave a fine finish if the edge on the tool is sharp. Ask any metal turner!
Shear scraping is a something of a recent development in that instead of holding the scraper flat as we did at school, (that dates me!) the blade is held at an angle of 45° so that the wood slides by the cutting edge. This cut will make shavings as fine as angel hair.
